Opinion Piece Leads

Narrative/anecdote: Now people are arguing that college football players should be paid. But, they are not being paid because some people believe that with them only getting their education paid is good enough and that they do not deserve more than this. Even the South Carolina coach thinks the players should be given money, at least 300 per game.

Question: Why aren't college players getting paid? People argue that college players should not get paid because they are getting a free education already. They believe that if players get paid a certain amount of money that next season they will want to be asking for more money, and it will eventually end up like the NFL.

Direct address lead: If you are one of the people that thinks college footballs players should not get paid, you may find yourself frequently be thinking they do not need that much money, but you do not realize that many people are against you.

Comment down below on which lead should be used.

  1. I like the question and the direct address leads because they help to address the problem.

  3. I think you should do the opposite of the direct address one, like say "If you believe college players should get money, you are not alone." That way you are not insulting the reader by making him/her sound wrong.

  4. Good job on showing both sides of the conflict. I personally think they should.

  5. Sup burrito I like the narrative best, but i don't think your narrative lead has a narrative. I think it is more of a descriptive lead.

  6. The second was really good because you had a good argument and it was also pretty persuasive.

  7. I like your 2nd lead because it predicts the future of the college football area.

  8. The narrative lead doesn't really tell a story. You may want to work on that one.The direct address is kind of awkward, because it addresses the reader on something that doesn't really effect them. The question is the best because it presents a question that you will answer in your opinion piece.
