Leonel Alvarez Fired

Colombia has fired national soccer team coach Leonel Alvarez after barely four months in charge of the team. Alvarez oversaw three World Cup qualifying matches during his tenure: a 2-1 win in Bolivia, a 2-1 loss to Argentina and a 1-1 draw against Venezuela. Colombian soccer federation president Luis Bedoya says the decision made by the organization's seven-man board was "unanimous." Alvarez took over in August after predecessor Hernan Dario Gomez left the job after he hit a woman in a Bogota bar. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos says on his official Twitter account that the federation should choose the "best coach available" to replace Alvarez, even if that means a foreigner.Alvarez took over in August after predecessor Hernan Dario Gomez left the job after he hit a woman in a Bogota bar.Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos says on his official Twitter account that the federation should choose the “best coach available” to replace Alvarez, even if that means a foreigner. The Florida Marlins signed star pitcher Mark Buerhle today. Mark Buerhle is a four time All-Star, and has won three straight Gold Gloves in a row. "This kid is special," Guillen said. "He pitched in the big scenarios, big moments, very tough city to pitch. When people love you in Chicago, that means something."
The 32-year-old Buehrle has been one of the majors' most durable and effective pitchers for more than a decade. He has reached double figures in victories and thrown over 200 innings in each of the last 11 seasons, all with the White Sox.
Buehrle was 13-9 with a 3.59 ERA this year and won his third straight Gold Glove.
The deal Buehrle made with the Marlins was a four year deal worth 58 million dollars. While the Marlins were landing Buehrle, there were also significant developments in the Albert Pujols sweepstakes. The Marlins are now out of the running for Pujols, reports ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick, leaving St. Louis as the prime candidate to sign the three-time MVP.
A workhorse for the White Sox, he helped them win the 2005 World Series when he even made a relief appearance. Chicago offered him salary arbitration last month, but he decided to find a new home after a visit to Miami, where the Marlins will move into a new ballpark next season.

So Long to Mike Sherman!
After a tough 6-6 season with several close losses, Texas A&M has fired their head football coach Mike Sherman. Sherman had a solid 25-25 record during his four seasons at A&M. He still had three years left on his contract, along with a one year extension. His best season at A&M came last year where the football team ended the season 9-4. Some possible replacements for Sherman include Kevin Sumlin, Charlie Strong, Kirby Smart, and Larry Fedora.
Sherman was fired because of the losses that came after leads in the first half. A&M, who is moving to the SEC next year, wanted momentum going into next season, to prove the haters, as I call them, wrong. Instead they are going into the SEC with no coach, no star QB Ryan Tannehill, and no victory over arch rival Texas. Texas A&M will play against Northwestern in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Houston on New Year's Eve. It will be the last game where A&M will be representing the Big 12 Conference.

The Big 12 Conference will keep going though, with future members in TCU, a university dying to get strength of schedule, and West Virginia, a team that is only "meh" as I call it. As for Sherman, who knows what will happen to him now. Before A&M, he worked as an assistant coach in the NFL. The Aggies sure do like to say bye to a lot of things- Texas University, the Big 12, and now Mike Sherman.
