After a tough 6-6 season with several close losses, Texas A&M has fired their head football coach Mike Sherman. Sherman had a solid 25-25 record during his four seasons at A&M. He still had three years left on his contract, along with a one year extension. His best season at A&M came last year where the football team ended the season 9-4. Some possible replacements for Sherman include Kevin Sumlin, Charlie Strong, Kirby Smart, and Larry Fedora.
Sherman was fired because of the losses that came after leads in the first half. A&M, who is moving to the SEC next year, wanted momentum going into next season, to prove the haters, as I call them, wrong. Instead they are going into the SEC with no coach, no star QB Ryan Tannehill, and no victory over arch rival Texas. Texas A&M will play against Northwestern in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Houston on New Year's Eve. It will be the last game where A&M will be representing the Big 12 Conference.
The Big 12 Conference will keep going though, with future members in TCU, a university dying to get strength of schedule, and West Virginia, a team that is only "meh" as I call it. As for Sherman, who knows what will happen to him now. Before A&M, he worked as an assistant coach in the NFL. The Aggies sure do like to say bye to a lot of things- Texas University, the Big 12, and now Mike Sherman.
