Red Sox Blow Wild Card Lead in the Final Stretch

The Boston Red Sox were up 9 games on the Wild Card spot going into September. However, losing seventeen out of their last twenty-two games did not help them pull away at all. On September 26, the Red Sox played the Baltimore Orioles. In the sixth inning of the game, Robert Andino of the Orioles hit a ball to Jacoby Ellsbury in the outfield. Ellsbury completely missed the ball, giving Andino a 3RBI inside the park home run to give the Orioles a lead they would not lose. This game tied the Red Sox with the Tampa Bay Rays for the Wild Card spot.
